The annual Alberta Science and Technology Leadership (ASTech) Foundation Awards Gala took place on October 25, 2013 where W21C and four other University of Calgary (UCalgary) faculty and student initiatives were honoured.

W21C received the Societal Impact Award, which is presented to an individual or team who has led, or significantly contributed to a technological innovation that has resulted in a positive impact on society.

Dr. William Ghali, Co-Director of W21C accepted the award.

Dr. Sheelagh Carpendale, W21C CRIO Program Collaborator received the Innovation in Information and Communications Technology Award – sponsored by TELUS – for her work in information visualization in the Department of Computer Science, UCalgary.
