WiTAT Fact Sheet

What is WiTAT?
The Wireless Temporal Arterial Bandage Thermometer (WiTAT) is a unique and non-invasive device that is fixed to a patient’s forehead over the temporal artery (with adhesive tape), and provides continuous monitoring of a patients core body temperature. The WiTAT is wireless and looks very similar to the average bandage.

Research Background
This phase of the WiTAT project expects to compare the accuracy of the system to other, more invasive forms of core body temperature thermometers (e.g. bladder or rectal probes), as well as collect feedback from nurses and patients using the system. The development of biomedical devices supporting non-invasive patient monitoring is a burgeoning area of research with the potential to monitor patients in multiple environments. The research and development of the prototype was pushed forward with the multidisciplinary W21C Team by providing a unique opportunity to design and test the platform in a real time setting.
