The W21C was recognized as one of Calgary’s leading educational institutions in the City of Calgary Economic Development Strategy which outlines the City’s 10-year strategic plan. The W21C was acknowledged for “…creating an environment where researchers and health care professionals and students can form multi-disciplinary and collaborative research partnerships that will lead to innovative and transformative ideas that will impact the delivery of health care” (City of Calgary, 2008). See page 9 of the document for further details.

The document identifies key objectives to strategically develop the City's economy and community to position the City on the world stage as a leading centre. The development of the Strategy was initiated by Mayor
