The state of science, research and scholarly inquiry in Canada has been the subject of intense discussion in scientific and policy circles. It has generated impassioned discussions and intense media discourse, as cutbacks to research funding, and the stifling of scientific expression, became the norm over the last decade. It was in that context that the current federal government commissioned prestigious and respected scientist, scholar and health-care leader. Dr. David Naylor to gain a true understanding of the state of science in Canada with the Advisory Panel on Federal Support for Fundamental Science, which published its report earlier this year.

The findings of that report, titled Canada’s Fundamental Science Review, will be interpreted at a special talk delivered by Dr. David Naylor, and hosted by the O’Brien Institute for Public Health on November 10.

Naylor will deliver the good, the bad and the ugly, along with first-hand accounts of the inner machinations, struggles and opportunities in Canada’s current research environment.
