Research surrounding the reliability of the Braden scale and the perspectives that nurses have towards this instrument is limited. Since the Braden scale is a widely used prevention tool to assess the risk of pressure ulcer development, it is important to establish strong interrater reliability between scores and to understand the usability of the instruments in a medical setting.

This study examined the interrater reliability of Braden scores and explored the nurses’ perspectives and attitudes towards its utility and usability in an acute care setting. A better understanding of the Braden scale as used in clinical practice could lead to greater use of the instrument in implementing PU prevention strategies.
