Human error underlies many adverse events in healthcare, and diagnostic errors are of particular concern. This can be applied to conditions such as pulmonary embolism, a serious and high incidence condition that can be fatal, especially if missed diagnosed. With funding from Alberta Innovates, W21C is actively exploring decision-support tools to reduce diagnostic errors by exploring platform options for tool implementation in our health system, and then assessing the impact of using a decision support tool on providers and patients.
