The concept of physician burnout and how work-related stressors can negatively impact physician wellness is a well-researched area. However, little is known about how patients perceive this topic. The W21C Wellness team therefore explored patients’ perceptions of physician wellness and its links to patient care. Using qualitative interviews with patients, the preliminary study results suggest that patients indeed notice things about physicians that they perceive as signs of physician wellness or unwellness. The final study results will likely highlight the need for greater exploration on patients’ perspectives as they appear to have important impacts on physician-patient relationships.
