This public digital forum will explore the current status of COVID-19 with respect to its biology, its transmissibility, and the public health measures needed to flatten the curve. It will also explore the future, long-term consequences of this global pandemic on public health and health systems.

Presenters:

Dr. John Conly is currently medical director for W21C at the O’Brien Institute for Public Health, and co-director for the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases at the University of Calgary. He is chair of the World Health Organization Infection Prevention and Control research and innovation advisory group. He is a senior member of the O’Brien Institute, a professor in infectious disease at the Cumming School of Medicine Department of Medicine, and medical director in infectious disease, Alberta Health Services – Calgary and Area.

Dr. Richelle Schindler is a graduating Public Health and Preventive Medicine resident physician at the University Calgary. She has been working on the provincial Alberta Health Services COVID-19 response since January, most recently as the architect of the expansion of public health contact tracing teams to over 400 individuals, including medical students. She has been featured in local and national media for her role in contact tracing in Alberta, including CBC’s The National and the Globe and Mail, and her work has been adopted across the Canada.
