June 25, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

The O’Brien Institute for Public Health invites you to this special seminar:
Connecting NASA Earth Science Applications with Air Quality and Respiratory Health
NASA utilizes its fleet of more than 20 satellites and sensors in low-Earth orbit to provide real-time data that examine the temporal and spatial variation of an array of emerging environmental risks affecting human and animal health. NASA satellite-based observations, combined with in situ and airborne air quality campaign data, can help researchers explore ways to better understand air quality and other environmental health challenges. Multidisciplinary and multisectoral collaborations are crucial to leverage scientific expertise, merge data and technology, and quantify the burden of environmental exposures and disease hotspots across geographic regions. These presentations will describe ongoing activities at NASA and the NASA Health and Air Quality Applied Sciences Team, as well as their significance toward cross-cutting applied air pollution and public health research.
- Utilizing Earth Observations to Inform Health and Air Quality Management Decisions (John Haynes, NASA HQ)
- Using Earth Observations to Enhance Public Health Surveillance (Helena Chapman, NASA HQ)
- Collaborative Approaches for Engaging Stakeholders with the Health and Air Quality Applied Sciences Team (Jenny Bratburd, University of Wisconsin-Madison)
