Tom is a critical care physician who has led several clinical informatics projects, culminating in a five-hospital, 2000-bed, integrated health region that included sophisticated clinical decision support and was enthusiastically embraced by physicians. This project won the 2007American Medical Directors of Information Systems organizational award for Calgary.
Tom has consulted to informatics projects in healthcare organizations across North America. He is Associate Professor Emeritus in Critical Care Medicine, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School of Health Information Science, University of Victoria.
In his role as Director, Arts & Humanities in Health And Medicine at Cumming, he is exploring the complex cultural impact of electronic health records.
