Medical Teaching Unit (MTU) attending physicians have a complex and multifaceted role, yet new MTU attending physicians receive little formal training or support. Transitioning in to the role of MTU attending physician may therefore be difficult not only for new physicians, but also for other care providers and stakeholders within the MTU. The W21C Wellness team is piloting a new training and knowledge translation initiative aimed at ensuring that new MTU attending physicians are adequately prepared and supported as they transition into independent practice. The goal is to then develop training modules that may be used at other MTUs across the country, as well as with residents or fellows before they transition into the role of MTU attending physicians.
