Journal Club: Improving Patient Safety Through Patient-Reported Adverse Outcomes

June 2, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Wrechelle Ocampo

Research Associate, W21C

Presentation Summary:

Patients transitioning from the hospital into the community are vulnerable to adverse outcomes and unplanned readmissions. This presentation will discuss how patient-reported adverse outcomes (PRAOs), from a randomized controlled trial (RCT) on improving the transition of care, can identify issues in healthcare and address the need to improve patient safety.

Learning Objectives:

1. Define adverse outcomes and recognize how PRAOs are a valuable tool.

2. Describe the mixed-methods approach used to analyze and interpret PRAOs.

3. Discuss the issues in healthcare identified by PRAOs.

The W21C Journal Club+ is a self-approved group learning activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
