The W21C Human Factor’s team studied the effect of patient sex on people’s ability to properly use automatic external defibrillators (AEDs). Usability testing of AED’s was conducted with laypersons on simulated male and female patients. Findings suggested that sex did have an effect of the quality of the resuscitation process, including clothing removal and hand placement accuracy during CPR.
