W21C conducted an interdisciplinary and province-wide evaluation of an innovation initiative in Edmonton and Calgary: Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) pilots. The evaluation found that implementation of MAU may reduce emergency room overcrowding, improve patient transition and continuity of care within hospital services, and reduce overall length of patient stay. The results presented to Alberta Health Services, were taken into consideration for the planning of future MAUs.
